Mid-Day Realization
Given the absolutely essential role that
bees play in Nature's true scheme of things,
it might not be a coincidence at all that today,
after I watched bees buzz around blue flowers,
the mail carrier delivered a thick azure envelope
containing dire warnings about apian survivability
and the grim consequences that humanity might face.
It was a rare occasion: I had no objection to buzzwords.
Insect Ingenuity
The orange tree is blossoming.
The bees were all over it yesterday.
Every little bloom's nectar was taken.
I expected the same today, but no deal.
I see clearly the whiteness of the flowers,
but not a bee in sight for hours and hours.
They must have exhausted the pollen counts!
Perhaps it is I who has repelled them this time.
Takeaway? The best option is just to let them be.
Mother's Day
Today is Mothers' [sic] Day.
I 've seen lots of flowers for sale
in stores and at roadside stands.
Considerable quantities of social-
media posts dedicated to moms.
Even a few television programs
concerning maternal matters.
Plenty of restaurant reservations
for couples and whole families.
And a few music specials at patio
bars and in-the-know wineries.
Some of us stay home to get out
the shoe boxes of photographs
to see if there's just one more of her
suitable for framing and placement.
